The Universal Cup is the most prestigious and sought-after trophy in world football. The tournament is open to all national teams, and the finals are contested by the 32 best teams in the world.
In its 9th edition, the Universal Cup has been a resounding success, with billions of viewers tuning in to watch the action unfold. From shocks and surprises in the group stages, to enthralling semi-finals and thrilling finals, the cup has had everything a football fan could want.
Here we take a look back at some of the highlights from this year's tournament.
Group stage
The group stage threw up plenty of surprises, with some big names crashing out early on. The Dutch side Holland were one of the biggest shocks, finishing bottom of their group after losing all three matches. Portugal also endured a difficult time in their group, finishing second behind Brazil despite being tipped as one of the favourites to win the tournament.
One of the most exciting groups was Group D, which was eventually won by Uruguay. They finished just ahead of Italy on goal difference after both sides narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next round. Meanwhile, England bowed out at the group stages once again, this time after suffering defeats against both Italy and Uruguay.
Knockout stages
The knockout stages provided plenty more excitement and drama, with some thrilling matches taking place. In the quarter-finals, France beat Portugal 2-1 thanks to two goals from Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku. Germany then progressed past Diego Maradona's Argentina with a 4-3 victory on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time. Luis Suarez then scored twice as Uruguay came from behind to beat Spain 2-1 in an incredible semi-final match.
In the other semi-final, Belgium beat Brazil 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Barcelona midfielder Phillipe Coutinho. This set up an all-European final between Belgium and France which was won by Les Bleus 2-0 thanks to goals from Samuel Umtiti and Antoine Griezmann. It was an historic victory for France as they became only the second team ever to win back-to-back Universal Cups.
